Matthew Wright Leaves His Own Show

Matthew Wright calls time on Channel 5's "The Wright Stuff"

Matthew Wright has called time on his daily chat show which he has fronted for 18 years.

Front man of Channel 5’s “The Wright Stuff”, Matthew Wright has announced that he is to leave the daily chat show he created in 2000, to focus on new projects.

In a statement issued by Channel 5, Wright said: “After almost 18 glorious years on Channel 5 and the show flying high in the ratings, I feel it’s time to move and try my hand at something new.”

Ben Frow, Director of Programmes, Channel 5 added: “We would like to thank Matthew for his passion, hard work and enthusiasm over the last 18 years and for making the show what it is today.”

Frow went on to say of Wright’s departure from the network that; “He will be sorely missed and we wish him all the very best for the future.”

Has Matthew Wright Got The Hump??

It does seem quite strange timing.

The Wright Stuff recently moved studios and changed production companies, with the show now produced by ITN Productions, in a somewhat smaller studio.

One can only really summise that the ‘real’ reason for the announcement is that there has been some sort of professional (or maybe even personal) differences between Wright and the production staff at ITN.

Prior to the change, Wright effectively produced, as well as presented the show – something that isn’t the case now that the programme is in the hands of ITN.

Mind you, saying that, if it really is the reason that Wright is bringing the curtain down on the show, I could hardly blame him.  Having presented the show in a certain way for more than 17 years, only to be hit by a complete change of management, production and most probably an enforcement of new style….. I’d be rather annoyed too.

Wright says he’s going to try his hand at something new – LBC or TalkRadio might well be calling!
