The New York Yankees have missed out on a World Series appearance after losing to the Houston Astros in the ALCS.
The weather-affected American League Championship Series saw the Yankees take on an in-form Houston Astros, however New York had been clearly dominant all season long.
The Astros cleared their path to a World Series match-up against the Washington Nationals with a José Altuve walk-off two-run homer after a closely fought “Game 6” contest between the sides.
Despite being dogged with injury throughout 2019, the Yankees were expected to, at a minimum, make it to the 2019 World Series.
In a campaign that promised so much, the Yankees will have only regrets, and a bit of history, and a sense of what could have been.
The Yankees, along with the Boston Red Sox took part in the first competitive Major League Baseball series to take place on European soil, with the London Series. The London Stadium, famed from the 2012 Olympic Games and the home of West Ham United was the location for a summer festival of Baseball in the capital of the UK.
The team could blame the timetabling of the ALCS for their defeat, especially with the loss of a travel day due to the inclement weather, but these Yankees have it in them to regroup. They need to head into Spring training next year and start the next AL East campaign as they ended the last – their heads held high, and at the top of their game.
The 2019 World Series gets underway on Tuesday night between the Houston Astros and the Washington Nationals at Minute Maid Park. The Astros are heading to their second World Series in three years, and hope to repair the wounds of two years ago, when they fell at the final hurdle in the hands of the Boston Red Sox.
