American band Green Day have announced that they have postponed their upcoming tour of Asia amidst the global Coronavirus Covid-19 outbreak.
The band, one of my favourites I must confess, said that it came to the decision as a result of travel concerns, and that it will reschedule the shows for dates to be announced in the future.
The tour was due to start in March, with concerts in Singapore, Bangkok, Manila, Taipei, Hong Kong, Seoul, Osaka and Tokyo. The band are currently scheduled to head to Moscow in May, but it isn’t yet known whether that gig will be affected.
At least however, Green Day aren’t cancelling their Asia tour outright, instead advising fans to “hold on to their tickets”, a sure sign that they will be valid for re-scheduled dates.
Green Day are not the first group to change their plans and cancel gigs in Asia, with the virus outbreak having a significant impact on the current mega-trend of K-POP, and in particular the group BTS, who have cancelled a series of concerts in Seoul.
Other events around the world are also beginning to feel the effects of the outbreak, with major trade shows in Europe being cancelled such as the Geneva Motor Show, and Facebook cancelling a developers event.
