Chris Cuomo Fired by CNN

Chris Cuomo interviews his brother, Gov Andrew Cuomo on CNN

Embattled primetime presenter, Chris Cuomo has been fired by CNN, the network announced on Saturday night.

Cuomo, who presented his self-titled show weeknight’s at 9pm on CNN, was previously suspended indefinitely by the network whilst it conducted an investigation into his conduct.

He was suspended after information came to light during an investigation into his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The New York Attorney General said that Cuomo has used his sources to gather information on those that had accused his brother of sexual misconduct.

CNN issued a statement on Saturday evening, saying; “Chris Cuomo was suspended earlier this week pending further evaluation of new information that came to light about his involvement with his brother’s defence.

“We retained a respected law firm to conduct the review, and have terminated him [Cuomo], effective immediately.

“While in the process of that review, additional information has come to light.

“Despite the termination, we will investigate as appropriate.”

Cuomo himself issued a statement after the news was announced by CNN, he said; “This is not how I want my time at CNN to end but I have already told you why and how I helped my brother.

“So let me now say as disappointing as this is, I could not be more proud of the team at Cuomo Prime Time and the work we did as CNN’s #1 show in the most competitive time slot.

“I owe them all and will miss that group of special people who did really important work.”

It is not the first time that Chris Cuomo has courted controversy when it comes to his brother. At the start of the Coronavirus pandemic, he would reguarly interview his brother on his show, but didn’t at any point seriously challenge him over his botched handling of the state’s response.

Michael Smerconish will temporarily fill the 9pm slot on CNN next week.
